The regularly scheduled meeting of The Saluda County Republican Party which was to feature gubernatorial candidate, Lt. Governor, Pamela Evette, was cancelled due to weather. The business meeting was rescheduled for for last night, January 29, and we will be having Lt. Governor Evette at a later time.

Most of the meeting was spent in open discussion and future planning. Our State Executive Committeewoman, Gail Meyer, reported on the Quarterly Meeting of the SCGOP. The main topic for that meeting was support of a Closed Primary Bill. The unanimous vote later fragmented, as there were actually two bills, H.3643 and H.3310, and members later split on which bill to support. The result? Neither bill advanced out of committee.
The topic of Closed Primaries was a main topic of discussion at the meeting. Now that both bills failed, many of the county GOP organizations like Saluda, are forming study groups to come up with ideas for a closed primary bill that they can support. The hope is that the entire state GOP can coalesce behind one bill during the next session of the General Assembly. Our Saluda County Party voted to form a study group of our own, so that we can join in that effort with other county groups.
It was also decided that we should form a study group to research what appraisal policies other SC have concerning the sale of County land.
The last topics discussed concerned ideas for fundraising, and getting our presence in Saluda more well-known among residents. We are hoping to grow the party!
Meantime, anyone who is interested in checking out the Saluda County Republican Party is welcome to visit our meetings. It is our policy that anyone who takes the time to attend one of our meetings, may engage in any of our discussions, as well as bring up topics of their own.
Our next meeting features David Pascoe, candidate for Attorney General.
