Is our senator helping or hurting Trump?
Donald Trump has has sent a strong signal of disapproval and issued warnings to Senator Lindsey Graham and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo regarding their recent visits to Ukraine and their encouragement for Ukrainians to continue fighting Russia.
Trump’s remarks were made in the context of his ongoing push for a negotiated peace in Ukraine, contrasting his position with those advocating for continued military resistance. He emphasized that statements from Graham and Pompeo could be destabilizing and potentially harmful to peace negotiations.

The tension appears rooted in policy differences: Pompeo and Graham have advocated for a strong U.S. stance against Russian territorial gains in Ukraine, while Trump has signaled willingness to consider peace even if it means accepting some Russian control over Ukrainian territories.
Saluda Republicans should know that our US Senator, Lindsey Graham, recently traveled to Ukraine alongside Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal. Their visit included meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and was focused on advocating for stronger U.S. sanctions against Russia, supporting Ukraine’s defense efforts, and reinforcing the U.S.-Ukraine relationship amid ongoing conflict with Russia. These initiatives were all in line with the Biden policy on Ukraine.
Both senators received praise from Ukrainian officials, with President Zelenskyy expressing gratitude for American support and highlighting the importance of the visit as a gesture of solidarity.
But solidarity with whom? Joe Biden, or Donald Trump. And are their efforts impacting Trump’s ability to broker a peace deal?

Graham has a long record of supporting Ukraine and advocating for decisive action against Russian aggression, consistent with his public foreign policy positions.
Some within the Republican Party, particularly those aligned with the “America First” or MAGA wing, criticized Graham for making the trip without President Trump’s explicit endorsement, viewing it as a challenge to Trump’s authority and a betrayal of party unity.
Steve Bannon and other MAGA figures accused Graham of giving Ukrainians “false hope” and escalating the conflict, with Bannon even suggesting Graham should face legal consequences for his actions. He suggests Graham’s actions are a clear violation of the Logan Act.
The Logan Act is a United States federal law, enacted in 1799, that prohibits unauthorized American citizens from negotiating or corresponding with foreign governments or their officials regarding disputes or controversies involving the United States, with the intent to influence that foreign government’s actions or to undermine U.S. government policy.
.Graham is in his fourth term as senator, and is seeking re-election in 2026. He has served since 2003.
