We’ve only just begun…
With this being the beginning of a new, two-year term for the Saluda County Republican Party, and with my being a first-time chairman, it has been necessary to put a few building blocks in place at the start. At our first meeting this week, your County Executive Committee (CEC) took a major step in filling two important offices, Secretary and Treasurer, and created some other needed offices. In short, they got most our key people in place.
I looked around the room and felt so encouraged at the caliber of the people assembled there and the spirit of engagement I felt. The agenda was long, because there was a lot to do, and with every opportunity for discussion that arose, most everyone in attendance participated and had something worthwhile to add to the conversation.
I was quite pleased. You see, my main reason for getting involved in the Republican Party in the first place was because I see it as the best hope for restoring some very important things in our society that have been lost in recent years. Things that I see most often in the people around me -people going about the business of their daily lives right here in little Saluda County.
When I first heard of the “precinct strategy,” I recognized it as the best hope we had of being able to recapture some of the ideals that made this country great and our daily lives worthwhile. The reason? Faithfully executed, the rules of the Republican Party provide and excellent framework for capturing the voices, ideas, opinions, hopes and dreams of everyday Americans in the precincts where they live and vote.
The whole idea is to inject these voices into our party. To motivate our friends and neighbors down here at the bottom of the political pyramid, to use every bit of influence we can muster to force our wills upward into the process, having faith that with perseverance it can make a difference.
As I looked around me at that meeting on Thursday, at the people who took the time to be there instead of the myriad other places they could have been, I felt so encouraged. I also felt a real sense of obligation to complete this planning and get busy doing real things that keep us all encouraged.
For me, as your chairman, it will always start with making our meetings a place where everyone who takes the trouble to be there will have an opportunity to speak, share their views, offer their ideas.
Between meetings, you can be heard as well through this website as well as our new Facebook Page. We are now ready to be followed!!
