Nancy Mace’s relationship with Donald Trump has evolved notably over the past few years.
Initially, she worked on his 2016 campaign but sharply criticized his role in the January 6 Capitol attack, stating his “entire legacy” was “wiped out” by those events. She did not vote to impeach Trump but called for him to be held accountable, which led to tension and Trump endorsing her primary opponent in 2022. Despite this, Mace won her primary and general elections.
By 2024, Mace’s stance changed. She endorsed Trump for president, saying it was time for Republicans to unite behind their nominee. Trump, in turn, endorsed her for Congress.
The two have since publicly supported each other, with Trump describing Mace as a “strong conservative voice” and Mace openly seeking Trump’s endorsement in her bid for South Carolina governor, even calling herself “Trump in high heels” during campaign events.
Mace now strongly supports Trump’s agenda, emphasizing her alignment with his policies and appealing for his and his supporters’ backing in her future campaigns.
