The Trump administration is halting the flow of illegal aliens into the country…
In May 2025, the U.S. Border Patrol released zero illegal aliens into the interior of the United States. This marks a dramatic change from May 2024, when more than 62,000 individuals were released after being apprehended at the southwest border.
During May 2025, Border Patrol agents encountered 8,725 migrants crossing the southwest border between ports of entry, representing a 93% decrease compared to the 117,905 encountered in May 2024. The daily average of CBP encounters nationwide was approximately 952, which is the second lowest on record and a 2% decrease from April 2025.
Acting CBP Commissioner Pete Flores attributed these historic lows and the absence of releases to stricter enforcement policies and the termination of the previous administration’s “catch-and-release” approach. The administration emphasized that these measures have resulted in a more secure and controlled border environment, with sustained success in reducing illegal crossings and releases.
