Last night the first meeting of Committees, Cocktails & Coca Colas was held at the home of Chairman, Amy Potts. The purpose of this meeting is to create a relaxed, informal setting for committees to meet and for members to share opinions and discuss ideas to grow and strengthen our Saluda GOP.
In attendance were: Jay & Michelle Dunbar, Deb Camp, Ben Ward, Greg Sander, Gail Meyer, and Amy Potts. Any Republican in Saluda, whether already affiliated with the Saluda County GOP or not, is welcome to attend. As Republicans, particularly in today’s political atmosphere, we know we need all hands on deck as we enter into the critical 2026 midterm elections.

The meeting began on a sad note as each member recounted their thoughts on the assassination of Charlie Kirk. A decision was made to create space on our website and social media to include a short video each week featuring one interaction between Charlie and a student from one of the many campuses he visited. Each segment, most between 1-1/2 and 4 minutes is a masterclass in civil discussion on almost every issue imaginable.
Those on the Legislation and Issues Committee, discussed a petition to present to County Council requesting same-day sign-up to speak before regular Council meetings. A chart was presented that allowed comparison between Saluda’s current policy and that of other councils in the state. Saluda currently requires a citizen to sign up ten days in advance, which is over a week before the meeting agenda is posted. The committee will prepare a petition to present to the Saluda GOP Executive Committee for approval at our September 22 Members Meeting. All are welcome to attend.

Preliminary discussions were held about how we will approach the upcoming elections – recruiting and assisting Republican Candidates, registering voters, emphasizing the importance of the June 9, 2026 Primary, and signing up poll workers and watchers. It is very difficult getting volunteers in Saluda and getting information out, but the group will develop a strategy to get it done.
Everyone enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and free discussion. The next meeting of Committees, Cocktails, and Coca Colas, will be October 9 at 6pm.
