Doors opened on Monday, October 27 at 6pm for “eat and greet” time at the meeting of the Saluda County Republican Party. The meal – chicken and dressing casserole with green beans and dessert- was prepared by 2nd Vice Chairman, Jay Dunbar, and his wife Michelle with help from Gail Meyer. Several guests were in attendance, including Senator Billy Garrett.
After the Pledge and Prayer, 8th District Solicitor David Stumbo spoke to the group. Stumbo is running for SC Attorney General. He spoke about his background and why he is seeking the office of Attorney General.
The business meeting followed, and began with announcements from Chair, Amy Potts. She showed the Executive Committeemen two signs as examples of others the group could consider acquiring to post around the county to help improve voter participation.

Potts suggested that the Committeemen from each precinct could suggest visible spots in their respective areas to place signs, with a number of people recruited to place and pickup signs at the proper times. The signs would be re-usable, so would be a one-time investment. Cost estimates will be acquired and this idea will be brought up for a vote at the November meeting.
Potts further emphasized the importance of Primary Voting in Saluda and South Carolina. She reminded everyone present that, with the Republican Party as dominant as it is in SC, particularly when there are multiple candidates, the ultimate candidate is chosen in the PRIMARY.

Chairwoman Potts, told the group she would be recruiting volunteers to make phone calls into Virginia for that very close Governor’s race in which the Democrat is favored. She then emphasized that we are in dire need of contributions. She urged everyone present to go online and make a donation.
Next, there was a discussion about the upcoming Saluda Christmas Parade. Several members volunteered their trucks so the Saluda GOP can participate. There will be further parade planning in November.
Under new business, the Executive Committee unanimously voted to adopt two measures: the Run Red program for recruiting and supporting local candidates, and a Resolution for Closed Primaries.
Gail Meyer, State Executive Committeewoman and Chair of Hospitality, advised the committee that she had sent out several get well and sympathy cards. Deb Camp gave the Treasurer’s Report and said she had sent the $50 donation to the GoFundMe for Rowan Ridgell, the 2-year-old son of Republican Probate Judge, Abigail Ridgell.
Melinda Kneece, Secretary and Precinct Manager, reported that Deb Camp had been elected EC of Saluda 1 Precinct after the resignation of Jerry Bilton. Todd Bedenbaugh of Pleasant Grove Precinct also had to resign due to demands of his work. There will be a meeting of Pleasant Grove Precinct at the Saluda Museum at 6pm on November 6.
After Solicitor David Stumbo led the recitation of the SC Republican Creed, the meeting was adjourned.
