What do we need to do now that Charlie has been so violently taken from us? Nick Frietas, a good friend of Charlie’s, hosted the Charlie Kirk show one week after the assassination.
Dealing with Grief and Anger
As a former soldier, Nick Frietas had a difficult time dealing with both. The grief must be dealt with. In addition many people feel naturally angry. Some people, due to their experiences, journey into dark places in response to situations like Charlie’s assasination. Nick felt himself mentally going through the typical combat soldier’s response when unprovoked lethal violence visits our family, friends, or colleagues. This was an emotion he felt he had to repent of. He had to step back and realize a couple of points. He realized this was not the time or situation requiring his type of skill set application. Nick doesn’t apologize for his grief or anger; he does feel an obligation to God to repent of his anger and desire to deliver violence.
The second thing Nick realized was that Charlie was given a mission by God. Not the other way around. Charlie understood what his role was, and due to his talents , gifts, and viewpoint, he executed it beautifully. Nick felt that Charlie gave discussion and dialog and he received violence.
Nick delivered several points in this broadcast I will list below. The best treatment of those points is in the video itself. The most recurring question Nick was asked was “What do we do now?” His initial response is “I don’t know” followed up by, “What can you do? What do you feel led to do? What are you prepared to do?”
Spiritual Prowess: Charlie understood there is Good and Evil and it enabled him to focus on the fact he was dealing with evil, not solely the person he was debating.
Developing Yourself Intellectually: Charlie excelled in this. His recall of facts and delivery were a product of lifelong study of the Scriptures as found in the Holy Bible, economics, politics, philosophy. Everyone should devote time to regular study and become informed. Don’t rely on the media and so-called experts to deliver your basis of knowledge.
Emotional Discipline: Charlie Developed the ability to rely on facts he had gathered through his studies and to let them guide his responses to questions posed by others at debates. You could see that he was controlled in his responses because he had the facts and was comfortable wielding them like an expert swordsman or karate instructor teaching a novice student.
Professional Capabilities: What you have and have developed over your life can offer a positive contribution to the cause or the struggle. Quietly master those talents that God has given to you, so they are readily apparent to all. Realize no one can be the expert in all things or is expected to do all things. Understand what you are good at and be willing to contribute that talent, skill, or ability to the overall mission. Andrew Carnegie did not know the first thing about making steel. However he amassed a fortune of over 450 million dollars in the late 1800s by recognizing talented men – men who were experts in making steel, mining ore, marketing, logistics and putting them together to make and deliver steel efficiently.
Physical Health: Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. We should control our impulses of what we eat and consume. Men especially need to be able to defend their family. Learn the skills and be in the shape necessary to do so. Sometimes Evil visits you unexpectedly whether you are ready or not.
What should we do next? It’s a balance. Your obligation is your family first, then the struggle against the evil/foe. Invest your time and efforts in your marriage, your children, your community. Do not neglect them. Never underestimate the power your family possesses for you. Your family is your encouragement in times of great distress, opposition, and chaos. Focus on the things that you can have the most control over – local government and on the people of your community. Its how the Left takes over. They focus on the local while thinking globally.
Continuing Charlie’s Message: Ask God “What is it you have for me to do today?”
Nick Frietas is a former US Army Special Forces Green Beret. He is currently a member of the Virginia House of Delegates. One week after Charlie Kirk was assassinated, and at the request of Kirk’s widow, Erika, Frietas hosted the Charlie Kirk Show. This video is of that broadcast.
Ben Ward, member of the Saluda County Republican Party, and President of Sardis Precinct, summarizes Fietas’s message and call to action.
