Hey everybody, it’s Cal Forest. I’m giving you a little update of what we’ve been doing in the state house recently.
A couple key pieces of legislation or key pieces in my mind anyway that we have passed. Uh one of them is banning the sale of agriculture lands to foreign adversaries of the US. And as you know, that’s been a problem all across the country and even a problem in a location here in South Carolina. So we’re trying to nip that in the bud as Barney F says.
Another another thing that I’m proud of that we did, it came out of the ad committee, we banned the sale of lab grown cultured meats, fake meat. You know, I think if I want a piece of chicken or a piece of beef, I I’d rather get it off the hoof out here in a pasture in Saluda County or Lexington County or wherever it may be. But I I want something real. I don’t want anything grown in a in a vat.
For the people that may be close to retiring or retiring, um, we’ve passed a substantial bill about the homestead exemption. If you’ve been a South Carolinian for at least 10 years, we have upped that from $50,000 to $150,000.
That’s another key piece because the as the inflation that we’ve seen the prices rise and everything, I think that’s going to help a lot of people.
As you all know, the June 9th primary is quickly approaching us. I believe it’s 42 43 days left. And as you know, I’m running again for office.
It’s sign time. If you want to sign, please drop your address in the comments or either message us and message us with your address. We’ll get a sign to your home or to your business wherever you would like.
Also, I want to touch on primary voting in South Carolina. We know that most all races in South Carolina are won or lost in our statewide primaries. In South Carolina, we have an abysmal track record of voter turnout in the
primaries. I was looking back for a few years. Anywhere between 16 to 22% of all registered voters vote in the primary. That’s horrible. We need to take take control and take the bull by the horn, so to speak, and control our destiny.
So, I encourage each and every one of you to get out and vote on June 9th, or we have the option of two week in-person early voting. So there’s plenty of opportunity to vote and uh let your voice be heard.
I’ll be back with you soon and thank you.
