
Josh Kimbrell was born on December 18, 1984, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and was raised in that area. He attended North Greenville University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 2007. He has a background as an aviation leasing operator and is also known for his previous work as a Christian talk radio host.
Kimbrell is married and has three young sons.
Before his first run for elected office, Kimbrell was very involved in the Spartanburg County Republican Party and served as Chairman. He ran in the Republican Primary for The US House of Representatives in 2018, but did not prevail in that race. Two years later he ran for SC Senate from District #11, defeating the Democrat incumbent, and flipping that seat.
In the SC Senate, Kimbrell currently serves on several committees, including Agriculture and Natural Resources, Banking and Insurance, Family and Veterans’ Services, Fish, Game and Forestry, and Judiciary. He has sponsored includes bills on religious exemptions for mental health professionals and content restrictions in children’s library sections.
