David Stumbo is a career prosecutor and conservative Republican who has served as Solicitor for South Carolina’s 8th Judicial Circuit since 2013, leading prosecutions in Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens, and Newberry counties and becoming the longest‑serving elected criminal prosecutor in the Upstate.
Stumbo began his legal career in the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office under then–Attorney General Henry McMaster, where he led prosecutions for the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and handled some of the state’s most sensitive cases involving child exploitation and sexually violent predators. Before being elected solicitor, he also served as an assistant solicitor and private attorney, building a reputation as a hands‑on courtroom prosecutor who tries serious cases and delivers justice for victims.
Stumbo holds a degree in history and philosophy from Toccoa Falls College and a law degree from the University of South Carolina.
Over more than two decades he has focused on prosecuting violent crime, child sexual abuse, drug trafficking, and crimes committed by repeat offenders.

Solicitor Stumbo and his wife, Vanessa, both grew up in the 8th Circuit and have raised their four children in the same communities they now serve, which he often cites as the reason he is so committed to public safety and supporting law enforcement. As the second oldest of ten children himself, and with a wife who is one of six, Stumbo frequently frames his work around protecting families and giving a voice to victims who cannot speak for themselves.
