This executive order, titled “Improving Education Outcomes by Empowering Parents, States, and Communities,” directed the Secretary of Education to take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the department, within the limits of the law. The order called for the transfer of educational authority back to states and local communities while ensuring the continued delivery of essential services and programs. In May, U.S. District Judge Myong Joun, a Biden appointee born in South Korea, issued an injunction stopping all action on the EO.
