About Us

The purpose of the Saluda County Republican Party is to do everything possible to recruit Republican candidates, elect Republican candidates, promote Republican Principles, and increase the number of Republican voters.

If you are a Republican voter, you choose the candidates you prefer. If you join the Republican Party, you help determine the direction of the entire party.

Our Electoral College system means that no matter how many total votes a presidential candidate receives, the important thing is where those votes are cast. That is where the structure of the Republican Party becomes so critical. The official Republican Party organization covers the country with people who serve on election boards and work at the polls. They encourage new residents to register to vote, and provide transportation to the polls when needed. They get the best information on the issues and are prepared to discuss them persuasively in person or on Social Media.

Today’s modern technology also provides curated lists of voters in other states – particularly in the swing states – so that Republicans in red states like South Carolina can call into, for instance, voters in Pennsylvania or Wisconsin.

Republican voters, alone, can’t always get it done, but…

Republican Voters + the Republican Party organization = Republican President

Make no mistake, President Trump could not have won without the Republican Party. Period.

The pity is that so few Republicans know how their party works. We aim to change that in Saluda.

How the Republican Party Works

join Your Precinct
If you are a registered voter in Saluda County who supports Republican candidates and principles, you can join your precinct at any time. Simply contact us and ask! You will fill out a form that puts you on our email list. You will receive information about meetings, events and issues of importance to Saluda Republicans.

You will get to meet like-minded Republicans and become familiar with what is going on politically, in case there are events or opportunities that interest you.

In March of every odd-numbered year, you will be invited to attend a meeting called “ReOrg.”
ReOrg
In March of odd-numbered years you will be invited to ReOrg where your precinct will reorganize by electing new officers for a two-year term: A President and County Committeeman must be selected. (Sometimes it is the same person!) If there are enough people willing, a secretary may be elected as well.

The President and Secretary keep the precinct members organized and informed. The Committeeman is the representative from that precinct that holds a voting seat on the County Executive Committee.

After precinct officers are chosen, precinct Delegates are elected. if you have voted in two of the last three Republican Primaries, you may run to become a Delegate from your precinct to the Saluda County Convention in April. This is where the County Party is reorganized.

The next Saluda GOP ReOrg will be in March 2027.
The County Convention
In April, a few weeks after ReOrg, the County Party reorganizes for the next two years by electing County Officers: A Chairman, a Vice-Chairman, and a State Committeeman. Only Delegates from the precincts may vote for County Officers or even run for office themselves.

After County Officers are chosen, a certain number of County Delegates will be elected to attend the State Republican Convention in May.
The State Convention
The Delegates who were elected at the Saluda County Convention, then attend the State Convention in May. They join the Delegates from the 45 other SC counties to elect the Officers of the South Carolina Republican Party.
The National Conventions
Just as Precincts send Delegates to the County, and the Counties send Delegates to the State, the State, in turn, sends Delegates to the Conventions of the Republican National Committee, or RNC. This includes the Presidential Nominating Convention that took place this past summer of 2024 when President Trump accepted his nomination.

Those who ran the convention had been elected Officers of the Party. Those seated on the convention floor were Delegates from their respective states. But ALL of them were only there because they had first joined their precincts back home.
